Chiapas Mexico: “Strongest earthquake in a century”

Causing all of Mexico City to tremble, this earthquake also generated a tsunami with waves 5’9″ above tide level. The hypocenter was located 28 miles underground off the country’s southwest coast, leveling buildings and causing mass evacuations, and felt by 50 million people (wikipedia).

With over 800 aftershocks of all sizes, 60 with a magnitude of 4.5 or greater. It left more than 100 people dead. The Mexico earthquake triggered alerts as far away as southeast Asia, reports Reuters.

This quake coincidentally occurred on the 32nd anniversary of the 1985 Mexico City earthquake which killed around 10,000 people.
